Project

Wave on Wave (WoW) is a project co-founded under the sport chapter of Erasmus + programme.

WoW contributes to the implementation of the EU Physical Activity Guidelines raising awareness of the importance of health-enhancing physical activity through increased participation in water sports with a special focus on young people.

WoW aims to enlarge the number of people practicing water sports and, therefore, to reduce the rate of persons in a state of inactivity accordingly the Council Recommendation on promoting Health-Enhancing Physical Activity (HEPA).

 

WoW specific goals

  • Increase the accessibility of water sports ⇒ reducing barriers that limit the possibilities of social inclusion, the promotion of equal opportunities and the “sport for all” approach principle
  • Strengthen volunteers skills in organization and management of activities and events of water sport associations ⇒ improving their role as providers of personal services to local communities
  • Remove cultural barriers in young people and adults, especially among families, teachers and school administrators, that limit water sports practice ⇒ transfer of technical and cultural knowledge
  • Reduce the early dropout phenomenon in water sports ⇒ new innovative methods of teaching, couching and educating to “sport for all” values
  • Enhance the role of young people educationt played by water sport ⇒ new forms of collaboration between the different actors of civil society

The focus on young generations is motivated by a long term perspective which aims at chaning the behaviour in next communities. Physical activity, especially through physical education and sport, shows significant potential in the physical, emotional, social and cognitive development in formative ages and plays a decisive role in the development of basic movement skills and physical skills precursors necessary for the active lifestyle and participation in sports activities in the future.
